The Montessori classroom promotes life skills to aid in the development of independence, concentration, self-control and coordination. We focus on care of oneself, care of the environment, control of movement, and grace and courtesy.
Allows the child to refine their senses through an array of activities. Sensorial activities refine motor skills, visual and auditory senses, develop coordination and the ability to order and classify.
We introduce the child to phonetics. We invite the child to work hands-on with the language material starting with the sandpaper letters and in time progressing to the movable alphabet, where they begin the process of word building.
We begin by working with concrete materials. The sensorial materials provide the foundation for this area. We introduce the sandpaper numbers, quantities, the concept of zero, and odd and even numbers, before progressing to our abstract materials.
This area gives the child the gift of true exploration. We explore and experience the world that surrounds them. The children work with materials in geography, zoology, botany, history and science. We encourage exploration, curiosity and questioning, and listen to opinions and thoughts.
